About the role
As a Software Engineer, you’ll work at the intersection of software development, AI and geospatial technology. You’ll play an important role in both LUCI and CHRIS, turning complex datasets into scalable software solutions that have a direct impact on safety and land management.
You’re a technically strong engineer who is comfortable with Python, data processing and backend development. Previous experience in these areas isn’t required. If you’re also excited about tackling wildfires using GIS technology, drone data and predictive modelling, this is an excellent opportunity.
You’ll work closely with a small, highly capable team, including an ML/Data Science Engineer, the CTO and the CEO, to develop innovative features that are used in the field every day.
Responsibilities
LUCI
-
Develop AI and machine learning solutions for predictive forecasting.

Work with geospatial datasets and GIS information.
-
Design and implement models for risk analysis and forecasting.
-
Integrate data science solutions into production environments.
-
Improve data quality, analysis and visualisation.
CHRIS
-
Develop Python backend services and APIs.
-
Process real-time data from drones and sensors.
-
Build scalable data pipelines.
-
Integrate geospatial information into operational applications.
-
Contribute to the platform’s architecture, performance and reliability.
Ideal candidate profile
Education and level
-
HBO or university-level education and experience.
-
Background in computer science, software engineering, geoinformatics, geospatial engineering or a related field.
Experience
-
At least one year of experience as a Software Engineer, Data Engineer or Geospatial Developer. If you’ve been coding or developing since an early age and have a strong track record in Python, we’re also open to speaking with entry-level candidates.

Experience developing Python applications for production environments.

Experience with backend development.
Not required, but nice to have

Experience with drone data, remote sensing or IoT platforms.

Experience with AI, machine learning or data science projects.

Demonstrated experience with GIS or geospatial applications.

Knowledge of QGIS, ArcGIS or similar tools.

Experience with GeoPandas, GDAL, PostGIS or similar geospatial libraries.

Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.

An interest in environmental science, ecology or wildfire management.
